In response to the national call for the development of a circular economy and to reduce the impact of office waste on the environment, several cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen have launched pilot programs for the "trade in" policy for office furniture since the beginning of this year. Steel office furniture has become a key category supported by policies due to its high recycling rate (up to 90%) and low dismantling difficulty. According to the pilot policy, after handing over old steel office furniture to government designated recycling enterprises for disposal, enterprises can obtain a recycling certificate. When purchasing new steel office furniture, they can enjoy a subsidy of 5% -10% with the certificate. The maximum subsidy amount for a single enterprise can reach 500000 yuan. The implementation of policies has not only stimulated the enthusiasm of enterprises to participate in the recycling of old furniture, but also promoted the improvement of the steel office furniture recycling system. At present, professional recycling enterprises have formed a mature "recycling dismantling reuse" process: firstly, the recycled old steel furniture is classified and screened. Products with good appearance and only slight wear and tear can be sold as second-hand office furniture to start-up enterprises and small merchants after rust removal, re spraying, and replacement of accessories; For products with severe wear or structural damage, they are disassembled to separate the recyclable parts such as steel and hardware accessories. The steel is sent to the steel plant for re smelting, and the hardware accessories are repaired and reused in furniture production. According to statistics, through this recycling model, each ton of old steel office furniture can save 1.2 tons of iron ore, 0.6 tons of standard coal, and reduce 0.8 tons of carbon dioxide emissions, with significant environmental benefits. With the expansion of the pilot scope, it is expected that the recycling rate of steel office furniture in China will increase from the current 30% to over 50% in the next 2-3 years, and the industry will gradually form a closed loop of "production use recycling reuse" to promote green and sustainable development.
